Design project

This is one page design for my project in the University.

It shows the early development stage for future short animation project that will showcase an "avant-garde"? story of a man named Bob. With his own lifepath, ups and downs, and inevitable end.

The story depicts Bob’s life from childhood to his very death. The central theme of the animated film is unrequited love. To achieve a smooth and seamless narrative flow, most of the story is presented in a side view, with the protagonist living his life from left to right. The chosen direction is deliberately counterintuitive — from right to left — in order to establish sense of discomfort and unease from the very beginning.

Plot:
In his childhood, Bob meets the Paper Man, with whom he forms a lifelong friendship. Together they go through school and university, but later their paths temporarily diverge, and Bob sets out to find a job. There, he meets Butterfly and falls deeply in love with her. She, however, feels differently about him: she plays with him, enjoys his attention and the thrill of being admired, but her heart is not ready for any deeper relationships. Eventually, she flutters out of a window, leaving Bob behind. He tries to leap after her, but he has no wings — he was doomed from the very beginning. Love carried him to great heights, and thus his fall was incredibly long and painful. By the time he reaches the ground, he is already an old man, yet time has failed to heal the wounds in his heart. Only his best friend grants him a trace of happiness, standing by Bob even at the very end, when darkness finally gives way to death, which comes to take his battered soul from this world.
